I often get couples ask me for advice on what songs they should play as key songs on their wedding day.
Key songs are any songs that are played during a significant part of your wedding day.
- Walking down the aisle
- Signing the register
- Walking back down the aisle
- Entering your reception
- Cutting the cake
- First dance
- Father daughter/mother son dance
- Bouquet
- Garter
- Last song of the night
Every time you hear one of these songs for the rest of your life, it will take you back to the most amazing memory, so the songs are so very important!
The choices you make will depend on the type of couple you are.
Some couples pick humorous songs, others very romantic songs and often song choices are just ones that really resonate with you both for whatever reason.
I’ve heard AC/DC Highway to Hell played as the couple walked back down the aisle once married and it has been hilarious. However you may prefer something upbeat and uplifting or serious and romantic.
I think globally when anyone talks about wedding music there is one name that comes to everyones mind. Ed Sheeran. Yes Ed has become the ‘standard’ for wedding music, his songs just sit so well with weddings. Love him or hate him, his music certainly hits a romantic chord at any wedding.
Having live musicians adds a very intimate and personal touch on your wedding day, but understand that musicians don’t know how to play every song and if they aren’t familiar with your song choices, you will be charged extra for the time it takes them to learn and rehearse the music you have chosen.
Think carefully about your song choices and if you change your mind the day before the wedding, so be it! It’s super important.
